If the microphone works in Skype and Facebook Messenger, the microphone is functioning. There must be some settings that you need to enable within the Zoom and Blackboard apps. Scroll down to the Choose which Microsoft Store apps can access your microphone section.

Under Input , ensure that your microphone is selected in Choose your input device. If the 2 apps still wont allow you to speak through your microphone, please check with the support team of each app developer for steps within the app for some settings that need to be configured.

But no sound came through the laptop. I cannot use a cable to connect my phone because there is no microphone outlet on my laptop; it only has an outlet for headphones. I searched lots of recommendations online and tried them sorry, I'm not good with this and can't tell you exactly what I tried. Yesterday, my system said that I needed to restart and said something about microphone.

I restarted the laptop. According to the advanced settings in zoom, my microphone is connected. However, when I test the microphone in zoom, it does not record my voice. The settings in Windows 10 show that my laptop has permission to use my microphone in the zoom app. I'm convinced that I inadvertently changed something a couple days ago when trying to troubleshoot the bluetooth problem.

I think that change took effect when I restarted the laptop yesterday. But I have no idea what change I may have made. Everything that I know to check looks correct, yet the microphone is not recording me when I talk in zoom. Update: When I right click the sound icon on the task bar, the option for "sound" is not in the list.

It's worth mentioning that a colleague of mine has been facing the same issue on his Windows 10 machine. Since upgrading to Windows 11 isn't an option for him, I did some troubleshooting for him.

More specifically, I'm unable to get my camera and USB mic to work, even though I've been using these without incident on Teams and other conferencing platforms.

For instance, if I go to video settings, my camera's light is turned on, but the preview is just a black screen. Accessing these settings causes the Zoom client to hang - forcing me to choose to end task - yet my camera's light stays on, and I have to disable and re-enable the camera app from Windows settings to reset the camera.

On the audio side of things, the speakers' test works fine, but not the mics'. Testing both the built-in and USB mic yields nothing. I tried the solutions found in Zoom's knowledge base. I uninstalled and reinstalled the client, updated Windows, drivers, restarted my laptop, and checked the relevant permissions, to no avail. I'm running Windows 10 on an HP Probook.
